About Ernie

Who I Am

I was born in 1952 and raised in Northeast Philadelphia. I have a BS from Penn State (Human Development), an MA from St. Joseph ’s (Health Education), and a Certificate of Advanced Study (Education) from the University of Pennsylvania. I am currently employed by Independence Blue Cross in the Member Appeals Department, where I provide staff education and training. My wife, Christine, and I have been married for 31 years. Chris retired in 2006 after 35 years with the School District of Philadelphia, her last position being Principal of Fels High School. She is now the Project Coordinator for the Center for Teaching Excellence at Temple University. We are the very proud parents of our son, Matthew, age 22. Matt graduated from Abington High School and is a senior in Business Administration at Penn State Abington. We have lived on Autumn Road in Ward 7, Abington Township for the past 18 years. We are also the doting “parents” of our cats, Natasha and Greystoke.

What I Believe

I believe that economic development (business, industry, housing, infrastructure) and quality of life (open space preservation, traffic control, crime prevention, culture, entertainment) are the keys to the success and well-being of any community. I believe that Abington Township must continue to prosper while preserving those qualities that make it such a great place to live.

What I Will Do

As your Commissioner, I intend to advocate strongly for the concept of shared governance, in which elected officials work directly with citizens rather than simply represent them. To that end, I pledge to maintain regular, on-going contact with all Ward 7 constituents and to encourage and respect the commitment and contributions of all Abington Township residents. Together, we will restore, preserve and extend the legacy of success for which Abington Township is known.
